FOLLOWING last week's piece on the state of the footpath from Julius Martin Lane through the Craves, I've been given a bit more information. A couple who regularly use the path to cycle into town have been on the case for eight months now, with no result. They originally wrote to the county council, who are responsible for maintaining the path, in August last year. The council replied that the path was bad, but they didn't have the money to repair it, try later in the financial year. In January, they wrote again requesting an update. Still no money, try in the springtime. Unless my calendar is telling me porkies it's now springtime so where is the tarmac gang Mr County Council Highways man?

We're into a new financial year with the Council Tax bills going up by five per cent so there should be some money for repairs somewhere. Let's face it; a couple of barrow loads of tarmac must be cheaper than a court case over someone's broken leg?
