A BLOKE I know is seriously thinking about going into the brewing business.

It shouldn't be too difficult to amass the ingredients locally. One of the few farmers that are left should be able to provide him with some barley and the sporadic downpours over the last week or so will give him the water he needs. The third main constituent of beer, which I always thought came from Kent, is hops. Apparently they don't all come from Kent, though. There are some growing beside the footpath that runs from Kent's Lane to Speed Lane. All my friend has to do is wander down and gather some and get brewing. There is an obvious name for his beer too, although how many people would want a bottle of Stinky Ditch is open to question.

One group who seem to welcome any beer is the volunteer workers at the Prickwillow Drainage Museum. Presumably they will be enjoying the thought of a few measures of ale on Sunday while they fire up the old engines again on one of their regular run days.
