However, one thing is for sure – if I do get the opportunity to crank my handcuffs around the wrists of the person responsible then I will have a warm happy feeling inside.

Robin’s Nest

MAY I start by saying ‘thank you’ to the editor of Ely Standard for giving me the opportunity to write this column. Its purpose is not to baffle you with crime statistics and corporate messages – rather tell you about real crimes that are happening to you and your neighbours and more importantly what we are doing about it. I make no apologies for being passionate about my job and there will be times when I will wear my heart on my sleeve. A classic example is when I reviewed the charity box theft outside Brands of Ely. I felt the rage fill up inside me. Here we have a knee-high charity box designed to collect money for sick animals. Some herbit (I must remember my audience) has been so bold as to pick it up and walk off with it. I cannot imagine what they were thinking when they were hiding somewhere taking the money out of it. It makes me mad. I want to catch this person!

Whilst we have no leads at the moment - someone must have seen something. Someone must know something. If you do not want to get involved then write an anonymous letter and leave it at the station, have a quite whisper to one of my officers or ring crime stoppers. If you give me a lead then I will personally go out and arrest the person myself. I had a letter of complaint this week as I described myself as a grumpy old man – it’s things like this that do it. However, one thing is for sure – if I do get the opportunity to crank my handcuffs around the wrists of the person responsible then I will have a warm happy feeling inside but I cannot do it without you.
