I HAVE recently moved to Ely. The city is different and features many pleasant areas of countryside within walking distances of residential areas.

My wife and I recently walked through Roswell Pits and were impressed by the wildlife and tranquil areas.

The areas that did not impress us was the clearance of trees and deep trenches. I was horrified to read in last week's paper that a major development was planned.

Having witnessed what the impact of such a development can have on the nature of residential area and the devastating effects on local nature I strongly advise that we, as a community, must stop this development. The clock cannot be turned back! Once the wildlife are driven out they are gone for good and our peace and quiet will be lost forever.
