ANOTHER group of people have flown across to France to visit the town that Soham is to be twinned with. This time a document was signed by the chair of the town council (confusingly called the mayor on the document, but never mind) to confirm that we are now twinned with Andréziéux-Bouthéon. There will be another ceremony at the carnival when the French mayor (less confusingly called, the mayor) will sign another document. So where does that leave us now? Are we half-twinned? Are we twinned with them, but they are not twinned with us yet? Until the second signing is the twinning just on a sale-or-return basis?

On the run up to the carnival, the festival committee will be organising a French week. On the Monday there will be a French film night, no, probably not those sort of French films, and on the Friday there will be an illustrated talk on Andréziéux-Bouthéon in the Pavilion. I suppose we could all dress up in hooped shirts and berets and sing Sur le Pont d'Avingnon, but only if our counterparts wear Union Jack tee-shirts and give us a few choruses of Ere We Go, ere we go, ere we go.
