WITH regard to what should happen to The Maltings, I would urge that it should firmly remain in the ownership of the people of the city of Ely to whom it was originally given.
The very position of the building makes it accessible to both old and young alike to use, whether it is for cinema, dances, pantomimes or all the other numerous social activities that take place there.
The restaurant is a focal point for all who use it, both tourists and local people, and should be advertised more.
If the building, including restaurant, is lost it will have an impact on all users.
Could there, with some imagination, be access made to the restaurant from the Jubilee Gardens?
I'm sure it would increase usage and benefit all who visit the whole river area, the cathedral, and the city generally.
