I WOULD like to ask a question with regard the cost of supply and maintenance of the Ely market stalls.

If, as stated by Cllr Fred Brown, these costs only affect approx 20 traders, why is the cost approx 30,000 per annum? That is equal to 298 approx each week. How much of this amount is the cost of the stalls and the maintenance thereof? Also does this include the cost of the wages for the council workers who put up the stalls?

As the market is only available two days per week this then equates to approx 14.90 per stall per day. Do the stall holders pay for their pitches? If so, how many of them would object to paying a little more to contribute to the equipment and the maintenance costs. I fail to see how saving a mere 30,000 will help toward the 1.6million deficit from which the council is suffering.

I look forward to reading Cllr Brown's response.
