WHAT excellent news that Sainsbury's want to come to Ely.
So many people have told me that we need competition to Tesco and I totally agree. I do have some concerns that the Masterplan has still not been agreed and any political argument regarding this application will just delay any planning decision for shops, indefinitely.
I went to see Sainsbury's proposals exhibition and was pleased to see that they are planning to provide a shuttle bus service to the city centre. They are also intending that the store would use all the latest environmental friendly technology. In addition to the bus, they are providing 470 car parking spaces.
It just proves that we don't have to have lots of extra houses to attract new shops. Let's hope this gets approved when it comes before the planning committee.
