I HAVE just received a copy of the Ely Standard containing the Evacuee Special. As an evacuee to Ely in September 1939, I found the stories so interesting.
I thought you might like to publish these two photos. The group of women, taken outside Archer House where most of the school lessons took place, were from Central Foundation Girls' School, and arrived in Ely in September 1939. they had met again in September 1989 to commemorate 50 years since evacuation.
The other photograph is of Rita and Sue Kara (now Lewis and Lester) with Alf Hitch now of Soham, with whose family Rita was evacuated. Rita and Alf have since corresponded regularly and, earlier this year, spent some time together in Ely.
