This Saturday, the Soham and District Ploughing Society is holding a charity ploughing match on the Isleham Road in Fordham. Organiser David Seal tells me that there will be a large variety of veteran and vintage tractors competing as well as some modern examples. Diesel is all very well, but the smell of paraffin should bring back plenty of memories for those of us who can remember when agriculture was still a viable business.
There will be ploughmen of various vintages from junior to mature as well as some ladies. The first spit should be turned over at 10 am and any enquiries can be made through David on 07831 268428.
