I LIVE in Ely and work in Soham, I regularly get caught up in the traffic jams caused by the level crossing at Ely Railway Station. I am getting thoroughly cheesed off with the doom merchants who insist that we don't a southern bypass. I suggest that they try sitting in a queue of traffic for 35 minutes as I had to on Wednesday afternoon. I am informed traffic was backed up way past the second turn into Stuntney, if this was an isolated case it would not be so bad but it happens regularly. If, as we are told, there will more freight trains coming through Ely, the situation can only get worse. That fills me with dread.
