SOHAM has been plagued recently by late night aircraft from RAF Lakenheath which are, according to the base, undertaking late night flying manoeuvres, to test things, such as night goggles etc. For the last two nights very noisy, large, low-flying aircraft begin flying over Soham from about 9.30pm until 10.30pm. For a couple of weeks before Easter, there was, over many nights, prolonged late night flying until 11pm. A call to RAF Lakenheath says that they are licensed to fly until midnight and are planning to continue until the end of this month. Friends have complained that children are being kept awake, and pets frightened by the sudden noise and it's very disruptive and difficult to sleep until the last of the aircraft have passed over.
