I READ with utter dismay and disbelief your article about the licensing problems that the Turning Point group and the Royal Standard have experienced. That such a group of writers and poets exist and meet in Ely is such a positive initiative for Ely and the arts. It is great that the pub has supported them in offering a venue.
To read that the ECDC are using the licensing laws to discourage such an initiative fills me with dismay. That they use the newspaper to check adverts for events, which after all are designed for people's enjoyment is shocking. How can this be allowed to happen? What is going on?
Can ECDC not help these events to happen and offer more advice to organisations instead of being so unhelpful and discouraging?
