IT'S a busy old day on Friday. At 6pm, the premier sporting event of the year kicks off at the Town Ground on Julius Martin Lane. It's the time of year to remember Soham Town Rangers' number one wet sponge expert of years gone by, the late Mr Reg Collen.

Each year, the cream of footballing talent from Soham's two primary schools meet to contest the Reg Collen Cup. Not only is it a chance for the teams to play on a full-sized pitch, but it also keeps the name of a great supporter and worker for the club alive. The football's not bad either.

Later in the evening the Phoenix Players who have risen from the ashes of the College Players will be staging their first production at the Comrades Club. They will be presenting two comedies, Pastiche by Nick Hall and Last Tango by David Tristram. Tickets at £5 and £3 are available at the door or from Soham Books and Jenkins Electrical in Fordham. There is another performance on Saturday at the Victoria Hall. Each night the curtain goes up at 8pm. Be honest, you wouldn't want to miss Last Tango in Fordham.
