ELY's south neighbourhood team has just welcomed Sergeant Ken Moffat. Here he talks about his career.

BEFORE joining Cambridgeshire Constabulary on October 1, 2001, I completed 25 years service throughout the world with the Royal Engineers. My final posting was at 39 Engineer Regiment at Waterbeach as the Regimental Sergeant Major.

I have also spent a few years as a prison officer serving at Bedford Prison.

My police probationary period of two years was spent in Cambridge city conducting reactive police work. This was done on foot as well as in marked police vehicles. On completion of my probation I became a tutor responsible for teaching street skills to probationers in training.

In March 2004, I was promoted and moved to Ely as the reactive sergeant responsible for dealing with all incidents created in the East Cambs sector.

I have recently completed a period of recuperative duty caused by an injury and whilst recovering was the designated Operation Crossfire manager for southern division. This role involved closely monitoring the force's command and control system so that all incidents created were dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner, in other words, dealing with today's jobs today. I am now back in Ely as the south neighbourhood sergeant responsible for a team of four police constables and four police community support officers.

This is a demanding role which I am looking forward to. The team is dedicated and will be working extremely hard to impact on the local community in relation to all matters requiring police support.

The initial Soham panel meeting is shortly taking place. This meeting will highlight the policing priorities that members of the public wish us to address on their behalf.
