THE idea of the conservation area in town is to preserve old buildings and the environment. One of the first things they could do to make the environment look better is to get rid of the plastic signs that have been stuck all over the place advertising the houses on the new town off The Shade. Most of them seem to have been attached willy nilly by cable ties to streetlights and any other posts they could find. In the high winds we have had recently they spin round a treat. Fly-posting is annoying at the best of times, but apparent blind eyes being turned because the perpetrator is a large firm doesn't seem right.

The environment is, however, being conserved a bit on Brook Street. With the mud that is being brought off the building site by tippers it is just like it used to be when there were farms down there and you had to have mudguards on your bike.

One place when the old days were better is at the top of White Hart Lane. If you are attempting to drive out of there in a car it is almost impossible to see to your left because of the waste paper bin and the planter on the path. It used to be a clear view, but now it can be a bit of a gamble if you need to turn right.

Talking of White Hart Lane, I'm told the street sign went missing a while ago. No doubt some ebay customer is the proud owner of a sign from Soham he thinks once graced the home of Tottenham Hotspur!
