You could call it a ‘sound clash’ in Littleport this weekend! Steve Sharman, who you know is manager of the Ex-Servicemen’s Club in Ponts Hill, and who fired the imagination when he announced he had nothing on a couple of weeks ago, does have something on this Saturday July 23.
It’s Blue Thunder. No, not his aftershave, but the group who play all your favourite Stones, Eagles, ZZTop, Thin Lizzy, Cream, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard and more, to keep you dancing ‘from 9ish’ til late.
On the same night, at the same time up the road at The Crown Inn, landlord Rob’s got The Spree, who I am reliably informed play all sorts of music from folk to blues and heavy rock.
The evening before, July 22, from 7.30pm to 9pm there’s a disco for the school-age youth of Littleport. Hosted by ThePort, it’s being held at the Leisure Centre in Hall 2. Entry costs £2 that covers chips and hotdogs or burgers.
The big event this Sunday is the Littleport 10k Race at 10am and 1.5k Fun Run at 10.45am sponsored by Saffron Insurance and held under UKA rules. Starts at the Leisure Centre for 15-35s and vet races for over 35s, 45s, 55s and 65s. There are trophies and prizes galore! Many are looking to run personal bests. Others are running for charity. Cathy Gibb-de Swarte is raising funds for Bliss. For ‘babies born too soon, too small and too sick.’ There’s still time to enter: £8 affiliated/£10 not. And even on the day itself at £10 /£12 respectively.
There was a bit of a kerfuffle and at least one ticking off for the on-site chaps concerned when a sign appeared outside a shop being refurbished in Main Street. It said, ‘sex shop opening soon’ in big letters. Turns out it was a joke tho’ some couldn’t see it.
In fact, it’s going to be Melanie Missin Keating of Mellymade Designs’ new embroidery, quilting and crafts shop. Melanie gives talks about her work, that includes handmade greetings cards and wall-hangings, to local interested groups and the WI.
Littleport Graffiti!
Graffiti is not usually associated with village life. But last week professional graffiti artist Nathan Cox was seen hard at work at the leisure centre! The proprietor of ENCY Graffiti was there with youngsters from ThePort decorating two Wheelie bins, getting them ready to receive Littleport Community Food Bank donations.
