THE annual town meeting took place the other Monday. That's the one when the town council opens its doors to the people of Soham and report on what it has done over the past year. Unfortunately, it wasn't as well publicised as it might have been so there were only two electors present. I only heard about it by chance at the last minute. Anyway, we had the chance to hear from our new council chairman, Fiona Ross, and her vice-chairman, Chris Palmer.

The meeting is also a chance for our representatives on the county and district councils to report to the town. Both county councillors were there, but only three of our five district councillors turned up, and only one of them gave a report of his work over the past year. With some of the mysterious doings of East Cambs, it would have been nice to have heard a bit more about its workings.

One thing that did emerge was that there is no money for signs saying that we are twinned with Andréziéux-Bouthéon. Apparently they would cost £2,000. They must have used all the available money up on the new smaller street signs. The suggestion that we put the information on A-boards didn't go down too well!
