ON no account should the parking proposals be used as a "thin end of the wedge" to introduce charges to other car parks. In the interests of public debate, we now require an assurance from Cllr Ashton that he has no such plans.
Can he also explain why commuters would choose to pay to park when there is free parking practically as close to the station. Only when all these points are clarified can the people of Ely and the surrounding districts accept the plans.
