I wonder if any of your readers have memories of Roswell Pits?

We are told by those interested in developing the site that in the past there were old moorings on the main pit, but the more we talk to people with long memories of life in Ely the more it seems that this just isn't true.

Clearly, it is in some people's interests to present the plans for a marina as nothing radically new. But we think it is a real break with tradition. From what we've been able to piece together, as far back as people can recall, the only users on the water have been the sailing club and fishermen, while working boats and barges used the other pits. Can readers help us? We would welcome any memories - and any pictures - from Roswell's past. Please help us keep the pits as a place for our children to enjoy, as we do.
