READING the story in last week's Ely Standard about Monica Crane and her time in Australia, I only hope that her and others get the compensation they deserve but money will not take the pain away. Who was to blame anyway, was it the British Government who allowed these children to be taken to Australia or was it the Australian Government for not looking after them once they were there or was it the Catholic Church who treated them like slaves and abused them. This story came to the ears of the top author Lesley Pearse and she wrote a novel based on the stories from some of these children. Her book is called Trust Me and if you have not read it is well worth a read and will open your eyes. Yes it is a novel but it is all based on the story of the Child Migration Scheme and interviews with the children, now adults, and she went to Australia to do her research. I for one have never forgotten the book and I hope Monica has read it.
