THE decision to ask the market traders to bring their own stalls seems to suggest that the district council has no interest in the future prosperity of the city of Ely. I have lived in Ely for 60 years and also worked for the council and in my time of working there, every Thursday at 6.30pm up went the stalls for the traders. That was 60 years ago and now there are more market days, which must be encouraging more people to come into Ely to shop? Surely if the traders have to supply their own stalls it make life difficult and expensive for them and they may think twice about coming to Ely. I am told that the council wants to encourage more markets in Ely so it seems strange that they would then decide not to supply stalls. This is going to kill Ely market days. How is it that every other town and city can do this while our council has to make life difficult for traders. The people of Ely need to protest over this stupid suggestion.
