This road should be exploited as a gateway for the tourist trade into Ely rather than just a tradesman's entrance/exit. A designated conservation area? Not on first impressions - and I'm sure some of the residents aren't aware of this fact. Seeing a group of tourists walking single file from the station into town being blown about by the heavy traffic and fumes on the narrow pavements makes you wonder if they think they've arrived in the right place!
Much has been done to improve this road in the last 10 years and with a bit more work we could help to create an attractive 'gateway to Ely' for residents to be proud of. Is there any reason why we can't start this process by enforcing weight and speed limits in Broad Street? The traffic conditions have changed in recent times so surely the rules and regulations governing the traffic should be updated to keep up.
