I'VE just read your article in this week's Ely Standard entitled 'Thousands Go Free On The Buses'.
I am writing to express my opinion on the thousands of residents in East Anglia who are now travelling free on the buses thanks to the introduction of a new concessionary fares scheme.
This scheme was introduced across the county last month and more than 2,000 people have applied for bus passes in a single month. I believe that the issue has misinformed the general public and is detrimental to the long-term public interest. I believe that in general, the disabled have received the short straw, yet again.
I'm speaking of the minority, disabled people and pensioners who have passes, but are unable to use them in the Ely area because there are no buses with ramps and lifts.
I humbly request that you publish this letter as an opposing viewpoint.
