ON Sunday, the day Pam should finish her stroll in the country, there are two vastly contrasting events in town, both raising money for different charities.

At the Soham Lodge Hotel on the bypass there is a two-day Blast From the Past 1940s weekend on Saturday and Sunday. There will be re-enactments, a 40s fashion show, pie and mash and an antiques fair. On Saturday evening there is a 40s dance with vocalist Fiona Harrison. For more details, tel: 01353 725076. Manageress Dawn is keen to add to the charitable fund to send members of Soham British Legion to the French battlefields through the event.

Meanwhile, on the Sunday there is a quite different event at the Cherry Tree. The brave, foolhardy or those blessed with very little imagination can prove something by jumping off a crane. There will be a sponsored bungee jump for charity during the afternoon. In addition, there will be a funfair and a performance by the Soham Fenlander Majorettes. The majorettes' fund to replace their caravan will benefit from the sponsorships of the jumpers.
