LIKE a lot of other people I was interested to know why there was going to be roadworks around Red Lion Square for a fortnight as the signs informed us. Given the wonders of modern technology, I thought I d have a look at the Cambs County Council website

I thought I'd have a look at the Cambs County Council website. There's a section there on roadworks which I assumed would tell me all about it. I suppose it would have done if someone had bothered to update it this year. Not to worry, there is an email address for queries. The reply told me that there were going to be roadworks near Red Lion Square for eight days. We knew that, the signs said so. The reply to my second enquiry told me the Teglar block work is being replaced. Actually we can see this; we wondered why the whole of the centre of town was being disrupted.

It's probably the county council showing how 'green' it is by making it quicker to walk into town than try to drive.
