NO, I haven't been on holiday, the company that forwards my e-mails hasn't actually been sending them for a week or so.

They knew they weren't sending them, but didn't bother to tell their customers about it. They did manage to send us invoices, though. Funny that! Consequently, last week's column is floating about in the ether somewhere. Thanks. Don't you just love modern technology!

Meanwhile, the holiday we all had on Bank Holiday Monday was just a bit on the damp side. I've lived in Soham for 50-odd years and can't remember the carnival being washed out before. All credit to the brave souls who made the parade something really worth waiting for. Even through the monsoon and the arctic winds there were big smiles and enthusiastic waves. Well done! Never mind, Kim, Colin, Cakie and all the other workers of the Benevolent Society, it's sure to be baking hot in 2008.
