NEWS of the Littleport fire broke on Friday afternoon and the Standard's news team sprang into action to bring you coverage of the fire as it was happening on our website. Judging by the huge number of people who accessed our website on Friday night and in the following few days our efforts were justified. There was massive interest and reaction to this huge fire, which luckily did not result in death or injury. I went running on Tuesday night and it was still possible to see the smoke billowing out across the fields. The spectacular front page photograph we have used this week was taken by a man in a helicopter and we were also inundated with photographs taken by readers and people living nearby. And I really want this week to thank all the people who took the time to send in their photographs. Although we only had space to use a few, there are more on our website. It's interesting because a few years ago websites were just an add-on; they really existed as somewhere to replicate everything that appeared in the paper for people who might not have access to the printed product. These days they drive the news. And when a big news story breaks we can bring you news, updates, photos and video, sometimes within minutes of an incident happening. If you have any ideas or suggestions about the frequency of news updates or the subject matter or if there is anything you would like to see on the website, we would be happy to hear from you.
