I SAW a poster on the side of a bus the other day that was telling the world that 'England goes smoke free on July 1'. It was very informative to those of us standing by the side of the road, but totally lost on the lady following in her car. As she crept along behind the Stagecoach double decker she was oblivious to the coming threat and was thoroughly enjoying her cigarette. I just hope she wasn't thinking about work.

When the smoking population migrates outside on Sunday there will be one thing (apart from the stuff in bottles and pumps) to attract them into one of the pubs in Soham. The cricket club will be holding one of its regular fortnightly quizzes at its new venue, the Carpenters Arms in Brook Street, at 8pm on Sunday evening. At least you will be able to see across the room this time to check if anyone's cheating!
