ANYONE who missed Wicken Fete last weekend can catch up with another village festival on Saturday (1st) when the Isleham Gala hits the streets again. While Wicken has its dog show, including classes for waggiest tail and prettiest bitch, Isleham has a race for the young at heart in their electric buggies. Being Isleham, the competitors are probably recalling heroic cricket matches even as they speed around the field.

Not that age is a major factor in using a buggy, but it sometimes contributes to the need for one. On that basis one of our friends may soon be on the starting line at Isleham. Jenny of Clay Street hits the magic 60 on the very day of the race. She's got several years of trotting around under her own steam yet, but when the day comes we'll expect to see revving up at the start with all the others. Happy birthday, anyway.

If racing around Isleham Rec doesn't appeal, she can always celebrate two birthdays in one by having a cup of tea and a donut in the Ranthorne Café on the High Street which has just had its first year in business.
