I HAVE to write about my disgust at the Ely firework display for this year. I am extremely disappointed that (for financial/commercial reasons?) the display was held on November 11. Surely, this is a day for quiet contemplation and remembrance? I have bro

I HAVE to write about my disgust at the Ely firework display for this year. I am extremely disappointed that (for financial/commercial reasons?) the display was held on November 11. Surely, this is a day for quiet contemplation and remembrance?

I have brought up my children, aged nine and four, to respect this day, as I always did as a child and still as an adult.

I do not feel it is appropriate to be setting off loud fireworks on this day, when we should be remembering the brave men and women who fought in any war and what they have been through. I am sure they suffered far louder explosions than those the fireworks will give off, but I do think this is very disrespectful to them. Fireworks night is

November 5, not 11, and so what if people go to other displays on that night, this is not a good enough reason to disrespect the veterans nor the soldiers serving now.

The Ely fireworks display has lost this family.

HAVING attended most of the fireworks displays in Ely over the last 30-odd years, I have only one word to sum up last Saturday's fireworks display - marvellous.
