I THINK we have all heard the arguments about social housing before. It was said about High Barns when that was being built; they said it would be slums within a year. I remember well when we first married and were allotted converted prisoner-of-war huts to live in on what is now Ely Golf Course. We were all just out of the services as war had finished but the elite of Ely wanted all of us off that site. We had laid our lives on the line for people who were living off the fat of the land and now we were being tufted out of our homes. Sorry, but young people need somewhere to live, and if Barrett can do this then so be it. Always remember you were young once and needed a house to live in. It's always the same - you can build, but not in my back yard, give the young a chance to start a life together.
