Valuable quality is common sensed in bypass debate

Eddie Holden is right in his views expressed in his letter A Simple Solution, about vehicles repeatedly becoming stuck under the railway underpass.

Like me, Eddie is no expert but he does have one valuable quality and that is common sense.

The ‘experts’ who installed and maintain the expensive warning lights system will not listen, convinced of their own wisdom and unwilling to admit they are wrong, despite continuing and not infrequent accidents.

Simple hanging barriers would give both an unmissable visible and audible warning, causing minimal damage to overheight vehicles, and stopping them before hitting the bridge.

To those who come up with the excuse it’s all been tried before I would say give it another trial, a relatively inexpensive solution to a costly problem.
