WHAT world do the councillors of Ely live in? It is not the same one as the rest of us, that's for sure. So the people of Ely and the surrounding areas are not going to have a Focus DIY store. We are not going to have a Lidl or come to that anything else that would save us traipsing to Cambridge or Newmarket. The reasons given is too much traffic, people will not use the new path from the Vineyards to Lisle Lane and that these stores would take away trade from the city centre. What a load of rubbish.! Don't these people realise that the more stores you have the more people stay to shop. Having a Homebase and Netto on the outskirts of Newmarket has not harmed their town centre shops. Having lots of big stores on the outside of Bury St Edmunds has not harmed its town centre and the same goes for all of the towns and cities that have more enlightened councillors. There will not be many more chances of us having named shops here because companies will realise that Ely is a no-go area and will not even bother to try and come here. So people of East Cambs when the next council elections come round don't sit at home and moan, get up and go out and vote and vote out these councillors who speak for themselves and not the people they are supposed to represent.
