REGARDING the on-going correspondence on the USAF planes flying over Ely, I am wondering what the president of the Cittaslow movement will say when he arrives here?

Since the aim of the movement is to promote a less stressful lifestyle, one can hardly imagine that large transport planes regularly flying over the city will qualify us for membership.

Your correspondents last week all seemed to fake a political view of the presence of these planes, rather than looking at what I perceive as the real problem for Ely; that of air pollution from these giant planes, and noise pollution, which is not only a physical intrusion on our lives here, but adds to the stress that so many complain of today. A little less noise would be good for all of us, but until that happens I can scarcely see how we can become a Cittaslow city, much as we may deserve it.
