I FEEL I must cmment n tw letters in last week's editin, bth cncerning the future directin f Sham.

Firstly, in reply t Mr Shrney, small independent shps are fine if peple want t use them. The reality is that many peple will nly use them as a supplement t a weekly shp at a supermarket.

This is nt sme bunkum I learned at the Prickwillw Schl f Ecnmics, but an everyday fact. Painting a picture f village life, where peple have all day t wander arund passing the time f day in independent shps, whilst the vicar and district nurse cycle past smiling at everyne and greeting them by name, belngs with Jhn Majr's back t basics plicy, and it didn't d him much gd.

Sham is nt a village. It's a large twn (by Cambridgeshire standards) and will keep grwing I suspect, especially suth f the river as the nrthern part f the twn is nearly filled in

Many f the new dwellers are cmmuters wh will devte as little time t shpping as necessary, t fit in with their busy lives.

This brings me t my next reply, cncerning ur friend frm Littleprt and his pinin n the chances f Sham rail statin repening. I wuld have thught that his time wuld be better spent cntemplating slutins t Littleprt's prblems, as frequently reprted in this and ther lcal papers.
