I'M writing to express my disagreement at the position held by the Ely City Council on the proposed site for the Lidl supermarket because it considers it unsuitable due to highway issues.

A more suitable site could be found if the present car showroom is demolished. An access road to the rear of the one acre site, where there are plans to build homes, and exit by the sports ground should alleviate some pressure on the Tesco roundabout.

The park and ride scheme, to be completed this autumn at Angel Drove, will also help. If the new store will encourage more traffic to Angel Drove, so will park and ride. I would suggest that East Cambridgeshire District Council go for it because another superstore is badly needed near Ely.
