I NOTE that Simon Higginson takes the time to read the Ely Standard and seems to listen to his constituents. It is a pity that he continues to exaggerate and fails to understand simple concepts. However, I am pleased that the Lib Dems have done a 'U-turn' with regards to the car park at Angel Drove.
He invites me to check the facts, which I have done. However, I do not propose to bore readers with minutiae, (we said this, and they said that), but, suffice to say, most of the good people of Ely are fully aware of the history of Lib Dems objecting to all ideas.
However, they are not averse to hijacking an idea or proposal if the public seem to like it.
I re-examined the language used in my letter last week and could not find anything that was immoderate. The only comment that could have given offence was my observation, 'who can object to such a sensible plan'?
Perhaps a political party with an agenda that will lead to the strangulation of Ely? I did not even mention the Lib Dems but if the cap fits wear it.
He now claims to care about spending £1m on a project that most people think is
But when his party were in control of East Cambs during 1998-2002 they thought nothing about spending in excess of £7m, from carefully saved reserves, on projects that no one can remember and appear to have little value to Ely now.
His sneering comments seems to imply that being a former Conservative candidate is an insult, but I do not see it that way. I am, as well as others, working for a prosperous future on behalf of Ely.
We want Council Tax to be spent efficiently, on worthy projects for the advantage of all.
