I WRITE in reference to a recent article in your newspaper. Lesley Innes's interesting piece "Flood Alert" seems to extol the virtues of The National Trust's intentions to buy up and partially to flood some 10,000 acres of fine fen land within the boundaries of The Swaffham Internal Drainage Board.

This land, drained and nurtured at enormous cost over several centuries, is some of the best and most productive in the country and my own opinion is that, even with climate change, it will continue to be needed for food production, not flooding for many more years.
