I JUST wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part or supported the NCCU Variety Performance held recently in Witchford. Virtually every local theatre and dance group came together to support a very worthwhile cause, raising money towards a much needed portable CT Scanner for the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit (NCCU) at Addenbrooke's Hospital. .
Backstage the atmosphere was wonderful, with each group supporting the others. The performing arts community did themselves proud and at the same time many new friends were made. We would especially like to give thanks to the public, who despite the current economic conditions came in their hundreds to see the show. Whilst still counting the last few cheques, it looks so far like we will raise over £11,000 and that is a testament to the generosity of the people in our community.
Whilst not every national retailer chose to support the event, it was pleasing to see that Waitrose have a true community conscience, giving tremendous financial support to the event. Similarly local businesses such as the Ely Standard, Star107, Something Special, Burrows Bookshop, Octagon Studios, Sigma Upholstery, Digital Creations and Witchford Post Office all gave significant help and support, as did Witchford Village College and King's School.
The NCCU Variety Performance was a very special occasion, made successful by the hard work and generosity of very many people. I for one feel very lucky to live in such a warm-hearted and supportive community.
