The potential cuts to front-line services are unacceptable in that they would lead to the closure of fire stations, cuts to fire-fighter numbers, the loss of fire appliances and significant reductions in the times that some fire stations were manned. The potential cuts planned in the Ely area.

FIRE-FIGHTERS and Liberal Democrat Fire Authority Members would like to thank visitors to Ely Market on September 17 for their magnificent show of support for our campaign against the cuts to front-line emergency fire services across the county. The two petitions, from the Fire Brigades Union and Liberal Democrat Fire Authority Members, attracted more than 1500 signatures on the day, which is a tremendous show of support. The potential cuts to front-line services are unacceptable in that they would lead to the closure of fire stations, cuts to fire-fighter numbers, the loss of fire appliances and significant reductions in the times that some fire stations were manned. The potential cuts planned in the Ely area include the loss of the second fire engines at both Ely and Soham, as well as the closure of Burwell, Swaffham Bulbeck and Manea fire stations.
