Ely High Street's Saturday closure should be reviewed - who benefits from this policy?

I use Ely High Street both as a driver and as a pedestrian.
For several years we have closed this street on a Saturday. Is it not time this situation was reviewed?
Who are the beneficiaries of this policy? As a pedestrian I do not find it significantly easier to walk on a Saturday than on a Thursday when the road is open and there are many more pedestrians around.
Do the traders benefit? Do walkers benefit? Has there been a significant reduction in collisions since this policy of closure was introduced? Are Saturdays safer than Thursdays?
If the statistics justify the closures then they should continue, otherwise I suggest a review might be in order.
