FOLLOWING recent complaints about the Lantern Centre at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely, I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge 'thank you' to the staff for their efficient and swift help on February 27.
I was in Cambridge at my son's house when I phoned my wife for something. I was surprised to hear her struggling for breath and she sounded very ill, so I returned to my home in Little Thetford as quickly as I could.
When I got home, my wife was struggling for breath and I was really concerned for her.
Not knowing what else to do, I phoned the Lantern Centre and spoke to the receptionist. My call was instantly passed through to Dr Leventhorpe and, on explaining the symptoms to him, he said he could come out immediately.
Soon after the call, the doctor arrived and called an ambulance.
The ambulance arrived swiftly and the paramedic were very efficient. It was agree that my wife should be taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
Following a series of ECGs and other tests it was confirmed that my wife has suffered a heart attack. This was a total shock as she had not suffered any chest pains in the past.
She was kept in the MSEU ward at Addenbrooke's and, thanks to the staff there, she made a good recovery and came home on March 5.
As you can probably imagine, this was a stressful time for the family, but we feel the situation could have been much worse were it not for the efficiency of the staff at the Lantern Centre.
We would like to pass on our heart-felt thanks to all concerned, including the paramedics and staff on the MSEU ward at Addenbrooke's Hospital.
