I AM a volunteer at a charity shop in Ely and would like to make a request through the medium of your newspaper. Some people leave donated articles outside the premises, either overnight or at weekends, possibly not realising that this is a potential fire hazard - a carelessly discarded cigarette end could have horrendous consequences. All donations are very much appreciated and indeed necessary for the functioning of the shop, but please could we ask for all donated articles to be deposited to the premises during opening hours. Thank you to all those who support the shop, either by donating or purchasing.

JULIA SMITH.
