AS a member and regular user of Littleport Leisure Centre I would like to respond to last week's front-page story.
It would be tragic if this wonderful facility were to close, especially as it is home to so many different clubs and organisations. My daughter is a member of Littleport Lions Korfball Club and my son a member of Littleport Town Football Club and Littleport Cricket Club, who all train and play at the leisure centre.
As a family we also regularly attend social events at the centre - where else in the village can all the family take part in so many different activities? It is a family centre.
I was disgusted at the apparent lack of backing from our own councillors in your report; surely they should be offering help and support, not saying 'close the doors'. They are supposed to have the wellbeing of this village as their number one priority, that's why the people of Littleport voted them in. Why not work with the management and committee to help improve the financial situation?
During October 2006 a Have Your Say Survey was carried out in the village. This concluded that "most respondents consider that priority should be given to sustaining existing buildings and green spaces before embarking on a new building".
Please listen to the people who actually made you councillors, stand up and fight for the future of your community.
Do you want to see all the children of this village travel out of it to attend sports clubs, not to mention the adults and families?
