I am trying to research details of my great great grandfather, William Blanchflower. William was born in Marham, Norfolk in 1849, but in 1875 he upped sticks and joined the Isle of Ely Constabulary.

He served in Chatteris, Wimblington, Manea, Littleport, Ely and Wisbech St Mary. He retired as a sergeant in 1907 on the handsome annual pension of £50 11s 1d.

He had a wife, Jane, and several children. His brother Robert was also in the same police force as a constable. I have traced William's ancestors back to the early18th century. If any of your readers know anything of William, I would be pleased to hear from them.
