ROGER Wadge, in his letter of January 17, makes some very good points and his input is just what East Cambs Council is looking for when Ely's Masterplan is launched for public discussion shortly.

Yes, we do want to consider where the big stores that require massive car parks should be sited on the edge of town.

Yes, we do know that Ely has been moribund for years - largely due to political in-fighting.

Yes, we are attracting interest from major retail outlets.

Yes, we are considering all of these issues and much more with an open mind so that we can produce a coherent plan to make Ely the thriving market town that it is meant to be. This is done, of course, with vigilant regard to the preservation and protection of its historic centre.

Has Mr Wadge ever thought of getting involved in local politics - perhaps he should?
