THERE were hundreds of Union Jacks waving enthusiastically in Ely on Monday as families flocked to the city to enjoy Party in the Park.

Featuring an array of live music acts and entertainers, the open air event drew families in their hundreds to Cherry Hill Park, overlooked by the city’s magnificent cathedral.

Local acts were at the heart of the show, which began at 4pm, with spectators enjoying picnics and barbecues until late into the evening.

Acclaimed Queen tribute band FLASH headlined the event, but local rock groups Soulved and Lady Gray were also on the bill and received a warm reaction from their live sets on stage.

The event was organised by the City of Ely Council and culminated at about 11pm with the lighting of a beacon, part of a chain of more than 10,000 beacons lit worldwide, to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
