Spring has sprung in Littleport! While it's the cherry blossom and other climatic signals from Mother Nature that heralds it for some, for others, the Vernal Equinox is marked by sporting events.

Littleport Town Cricket Club was having its first night at the nets last Tuesday. I should say that the club is always happy to welcome new members by the way.

And LTCC will play their first match at home against Bluntisham on Saturday, May 6.

Captain Nik Marsh, who has played for the club since he was a seven-year-old, is determined to gain promotion for the club in this forthcoming season. And as he emphatically says, every player in the squad is equally important in that quest.

The club is also hoping to find a sponsor - a great publicity and PR opportunity for any local company.

The Leisure Centre has been buzzing too with a full programme of sport and fitness activities. If you fancy participating, for more info call: 01353 860600.

But in every season you will hear heart-warming stories of kindnesses rendered in Littleport, either by individuals or groups, organisations or companies.

And to list just a few of these occurrences this week; a handbag, lost at the station and handed in to the police intact, was returned to its grateful owner a few hours later.

A phone was left at the leisure centre by someone’s mum that she got back, and three animals were lost and found.

And the local charity for adults with learning difficulties, Branching Out, received a donation of several dining tables for refurbishing by their centre users and resale thereafter, from The Swan on the River.

They need to raise £20,000 for some decent, modern, wheelchair accessible, double glazed double doors, for their workshop entrance.

They are being helped by local firm JDR Cable Systems and White Stuff in Ely, and have one of those www.justgiving.com donation sites.
