I ACTUALLY went all the way to Cambridge last week to watch Soham Town defend the Cambs Invitation Cup. One thing I noticed on the way was that the world around Burwell appears to have turned completely yellow. It must be great to live in Burwell if you suffer from hay fever!

The evening in Cambridge didn't go quite to plan. Town lost by the only goal to Cambridge City, but, my word, they played well. You wouldn't have thought that there was several leagues between the teams for most of the game. Just a little extra stamina from City in the last 10 or 15 minutes, perhaps. Two Town men getting stretchered off didn't help. As usual we all came away proud of our team and looking forward to next year.

Looking forward to next year might not be on the agenda of the victorious City. The muddle they have managed to get themselves into off the pitch over the past few seasons means they may not actually exist next year. Town will be there, though, and likely to be there for several years yet. There is a steady flow of players keen to wear green shirts including the Soham Town Colts Under 7s. In fact they would like some new shirts for next season if a sponsor can be found. It could cost you about £300 and would earn you lots of thanks and loyalty from players, mums and supporters.
